Who is Brite-Lite?We're one of Canada's largest indoor gardening specialty companies. Our head office and operations centre are located in Laval, near Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Our products are available direct to consumers through our retail network of 10 stores (Qué-Pousse Centre de Jardinage Intérieur) and Ontario (Brite-Lite Indoor Gardening Center) and by mail order. Many garden centres and other specialty indoor gardening stores also carry our products including the Optimum Hydroponix® brand manufactured to our specifications.
How we got started
As you can guess from our name, lighting has always been part of our story.
We started in 1969 by reconditioning and recycling used fluorescent fixtures from office buildings. Many customers used these lights to start seedlings and grow plants indoors.
When a plant expert joined our team in the early 70's, our focus shifted to indoor gardening. That's when we were introduced hydroponics through City Green. In those early days, many people thought we were selling underwater stereo (hydrophonics?).
Our hydroponic "Herb Market" attracted a lot of media attention in the late 70s because top restaurants were using it to grow a year-round supply of fresh herbs in such famous kitchens as New York's Waldorf Astoria, Montreal's Queen Elizabeth and Airport Hilton hotels to name a few.
In the early 80's we created a line of home hydroponic equipment for traditional garden centers across Canada, but people were still slow to catch on to hydroponics. But we knew hydroponics had a future so we just kept plugging away.
We launched our first mail order catalogue in 1982. Then we introduced hydroculture for house plants to hundreds of thousands of Canadians through a network of sales people doing in-home demonstrations.
Throughout all of this, our original flagship store Que-Pousse in Montreal continued to evolve. Over the last 15 years we've added more stores to our network in Quebec and Ontario.
Our manufacturing arm that operates under the Optimum Hydroponix® brand has a complete line of fine products that are available through our retail network. We also wholesale these products to variety of traditional and specialty garden centres. Demand for our products is growing and we are currently seeking distributors throughout North America and abroad.
Although a lot has changed in the last 40 years, our commitment remains the same: to bring you the best products available at an affordable price supported by friendly, knowledgeable service.
